NEXT RECYCLING AWARENESS DAY                ... OCTOBER, 2011.
            DON'T MISS IT!!!
As a result of the lack of awareness and negligence, billions of Naira has been lost to land fill sites. Teaching to recycle used material will not only save the environment for the future generations but will also save billions of Naira from going to waste to be channelled into more profitable sectors of our country and economy.

Eradicating this problem is an enormous task, but like little drops of water in the ocean, together we can make a difference.

A SIMPLE act can change the world. We can initiate the change.

The 1st ever RECYCLING AWARENESS DAY- 20th August 2011

The Kids Clean Club organised the first ever Recycling Awareness Day in Lagos! The landmark event was hosted by Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, also a member of the organizations’ Trustee.  in attendance, Mr. Desmond Majejekodunmi, Vina (Big Brother Africa), Yemi Alade, Show Dem Camp, Zara, Gini and more. More publicity from: Business Day, Rhythm 93.7, Smooth fm 98.1, STV and NTA.

The objective was to have as many people as possible all over the city of Lagos bring their recyclable waste material – PAPER, CANS, PLASTIC AND GLASS to the event as Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) trucks were on site to take the materials to the recycling plant.

The kids as usual were encouraged to be involved in activities that help the environment, their overall well-being and the Nation... while having fun.

The idea was to have a family event where the following would and took place;

We raised awareness about the benefits of recycling which was done by Mrs. Tolu Adeyo - Head of Recycling LAWMA.

Mr. Desmond Majekodunmi, another Trustee member was also in attendance to shed more light on reasons why we should recycle our waste.
We encouraged the general public to REDUCE, REUSE and RECYCLE waste through educational materials like pamphlets, brochures and fliers.

We reduced the amount of waste that goes into the landfill site by assisting LAWMA with the collation of recyclable materials.

We encouraged the general public to be more responsible with regards to recyclable materials.

We fostered and supported a global culture of recycling.

We put a spotlight on the state of recycling in Nigeria.

We highlighted the state of recycling in Nigeria and how the younger generation can be actively involved in its holistic propagation.

We created a fun-filled atmosphere for them to learn and practice basic methods of recycling.

Parents and guardians also learnt about recycling so that they can encourage their children and wards to continue to practice what they have learnt after the recycle day event.

The Recycle Awareness Day educated, promoted and assisted recycling in Lagos State through our partnership with Lagos Waste Management Authority. We believe that teaching children will go a long way in ensuring that the future generation is environmentally responsible.

We kept the children engaged; there were games and fun activities for the whole family as well as music. We also had special appearance from popular artistes and celebrities like Vina (Big Brother Africa Amplified), Zara, Gini (Music producer), Show Dem Camp, Maximum, Yemi Alade, Bayo Omisore, Kemi Ajumobi (Inspiring Women on Inspiration FM) who all endorsed the event and played with the children.

We contributed to a greener Nigeria!

There was also a raffle draw where attendants were given a chance to win A family Photo by Orange Slice, 3 nights in a 5 star hotel in Dubai by Diamonds and Pearls Limited and A weekend at La Campagne Tropicana by La Campagne Tropicana!

After the event LAWMA will construct a recycle bank to continue the tradition of recycling in the Lekki Phase 1 estate where the event was held.

Our focus however is small communities and estates so management of waste and progress of participation will be well recorded.

Media Coverage was by STV and NTA

ABOUT US
The Kids’ Clean Club is an initiative of The Mental and Environmental Development Initiative for Children (THE MEDIC) a non‐governmental and pro-human organization that aims at a total positive transformation and development of the child.

The club was established to raise a generation of physically, mentally and environmentally clean children across Nigeria and the World by creating awareness amongst children, about the effects of pollution and global warming, and how they can make a change in their environment.

We also go a step further to teach them about patriotism, etiquette, motivation, dignity, integrity, savings, and at the same time harness their God given talents.

The club focuses on instilling a sense of moral and environmental consciousness in children with a view to reducing environmental pollution as well as social vices which results most of the time to corruption and a decaying nation. At Kids Clean Club, we believe that by teaching children, we are contributing to nation-building. We take delight in seeing a guaranteed and ideal future in the eyes of our children, but we also reach out to like-minded adults to partner with us.
At the Club, the children learn how to plant and tend flowers and trees; sing inspirational songs; engage in environmental friendly games; and listen to inspiring stories. Flowers and trees catered for by a child become exclusively theirs.
We also have a book club that encourages the reading culture amongst children, in addition to special academic sessions they are accessible to from well-trained tutors.

To combat environmental hazards, the club recently started one of its projects - The Kids’ Garden (TKG). We have grown to become the first and only group to come up with the initiative of a Kids’ Garden in Africa. The Kids' Garden will be the most effective way to educate the kids on the importance of tree planting and a clean environment, while maintaining its recreational opportunities and structure for families in the community.
